The experience delivered in Rising Sun has every player in the role of leader of one of six clans based on a fictional version of a medieval Japan where gods (Kami) and monsters (Oni) can influence battles. It's meant for 3 to 5 players and is best at 4 or 5.

K ickstarter kings CMON continue to churn them out, and Rising Sun is possibly the most spectacular realisation so far of the potential of their newly full-time employees Eric Lang and Adrian Smith. It's a success on all kinds of levels – game design, artwork, component design – and definitely worth adding to your collection.

This isn't the first time that I've felt slightly uneasy about the way Rising Sun is being Kickstarted, but today was the first day that I genuinely considered cancelling my pledge. One of the earlier stretch goals was to "enable" the creation of plastic components for the game's factions. These are Kickstarter exclusive. I'm fine with this.
